The Town of Hawes
Hawes is a traditional market town in Wensleydale within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The town has a high
proportion of independent retail shops, many offering products that are not readily available elsewhere. A good selection of
tea/coffee shops, restaurants and traditional pubs are all within a easy walk of the available parking. On Tuesdays the centre of
town makes way for the Market. There is a range of hotels, Guest Houses & bed and breakfast establishments
to suit a wide range of visitors, some like Herriot's centrally located in the town others just a short drive along the dales.
Getting to Hawes
The A684 links Hawes to the M6 (40 mins) going west and to the A1 (50 mins) to the east. The nearest railway
station is Garsdale Head on the Settle to Carlisle line and a minibus service operates to carry passengers the 5 miles to/from Hawes.
Hawes
as a base
As a B&B base for a walking, cycling or touring holiday or midweek break Hawes in Upper Wensleydale is very
well placed for access throughout the Yorkshire Dales. If you are touring then the Lake District is only about 1 hour away by
car. Our Places to Visit page has information on local attractions and places of interest throughout the Yorkshire Dales.
