Evening Meals
Whilst the full evening restaurant has made way for the Herriot Gallery, Andrea
and Richard still prepare and serve evening meals for groups of between 8 and 16 (normally B&B guests) if arranged
well in advance.
So if you are planning a visit to Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales with a walking group
or perhaps for a family party or special anniversary then we can create a menu customised to your taste. All dishes
are prepared from high quality ingredients, locally sourced whenever possible. Herriot's Guest House is licenced for B&B guests
so to accompany your meal we have carefully selected a range of wines and locally brewed bottle beers.
Introduced in 2008, and quickly established as a firm favourite with the residents of Wensleydale and visitors alike are the
new Art Gallery and Coffee Shop.
The gallery features original artwork, prints, ceramics, textiles and jewellery.

Thecoffee shop offers light lunches and refreshments with a range of home made cakes - just the thing after a good walk and before returning

A B&B Stay in Hawes
Hawes is a traditional market town in upper Wensleydale within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The
town has a high proportion of independent retail shops, many offering products that are not readily available elsewhere.
Several of the retailers, including Herriots coffee shop, are members of the North Yorkshire ShopLocal scheme and offer discounts
to ShopLocal card holders.
Hawes has good selection of tea/coffee shops, restaurants and traditional pubs are all within
a easy walk of the available parking. On Tuesdays centre of town makes way for the Market. There is a range of hotels, Guest
Houses & B&B establishments to suit a wide range of visitors, some, like Herriot's, centrally located in the town others
just a short drive from Hawes along Wensleydale.

The Gallery features solo exhibitions throughout the year.
The opening exhibition for 2010 features the work of local
felt artist Andrea Hunter. The exhibition entitled "A Heart-felt Landscape" opens on 21st Feb 2010 and runs to 7th March.
Getting to Hawes
The A684 links Hawes to the M6 (40 mins) going west and to the A1 (50 mins) to the east. The nearest railway
station is Garsdale Head on the Settle to Carlisle line and a minibus service operates to carry passengers the 5 miles to/from Garsdale
Head Station to Hawes. A regular bus service operates between Hawes, Leyburn Bedale and Northallerton see timetable

As a B&B base for a walking, cycling or touring holiday or a midweek break Hawes in upper Wensleydale
is very well placed for access throughout the Yorkshire Dales. If you are touring then the Lake District is only about 1 hour
